Academic Reading

What is academic reading? Academic reading is an interactive reading process in which the reader engages with the text by establishing connections between what they have already read and what other texts have said, taking notes, and posing important questions on what they have read. Academic reading requires a multifaceted approach to engagement in which the reader assesses the scope and relevance of a piece by using a variety of reading strategies (summary, scanning, prediction, surveying, skimming, scanning, analysis, and in-depth reading) (Wilson, 2022).
